Sports & Sporting Events

Whether you are watching professional players compete or joining in on the action, the Hawaiian Islands are a year-round playground for athletes of all kinds, from surfers to golfers to Ironmen.

With its inviting Pacific waters and 750 miles of coastline, water sports are simply a way of life in Hawaiʻi. The Hawaiian Islands are the birthplace of modern surfing and stand-up paddleboarding, and you can experience both while you’re here – either on famous surf beaches like Waikīkī and Hoʻokipa Beach, or at tournaments like Duke’s OceanFest and the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. You can also watch or participate in one of Hawaiʻi’s oldest sports, outrigger canoe racing, at prestigious events like the Queen Liliʻuokalani Canoe Races or Pailolo Challenge.

On dry land, Hawaiʻi’s lush golf links host some of the most legendary names in the game, and three PGA golf tournaments call the Hawaiian Islands home. Marvel at the elite triathletes that compete in the iconic IRONMAN Triathlon each fall, or see if you can go the distance at the Honolulu, Kauaʻi or Maui marathons. Professional tennis, NBA preseason basketball and international soccer tournaments are some of the other sporting events that will give you yet another reason to visit the Hawaiian Islands.
