Hoʻokipa Beach Park

Where: North Shore, Maui
Activities: Surfing, bodysurfing, windsurfing, parasailing, snorkeling
Amenities: Parking, restrooms, showers, picnic tables, lifeguard

Hoʻokipa offers good waves year-round and is a favorite among advanced surfers and windsurfers. During winter, waves can reach heights of 30 feet and definitely should only be braved by the most experienced surfers. The beach also features a protected area for honu (sea turtles), where many come ashore to sleep at night. Although the beach closes at 7 pm, you still have a good chance of spotting a few right before sunset. If you are taking the Road to Hāna, Hoʻokipa Beach is also a quick and easy stop along the way.

Please note: Hawaiʻi's ocean and beach conditions are as unique as the islands themselves. Visit HIOCEANSAFETY.COM which constantly monitors the surf, wind, and reports from public safety officials that directly affect the conditions for safety of Hawaiian beaches. Use the hazard signs on HIOCEANSAFETY.COM as well to quickly assess conditions and help you find the appropriate beach for your visit.
