Parks & Gardens
Kauai is known as “The Garden Isle” for its tropical rainforests, fertile valleys and lush flora. So it’s not surprising to find some of Hawaii’s most beautiful botanical gardens on Kauai. You can find three of the nation’s five National Tropical Botanical Gardens on Kauai: Allerton Garden and McBryde Garden on the South Shore, and Limahuli Garden in Haena. McBryde Garden is home to the largest collection of native Hawaiian flora in the world, while Allerton Garden features amazing landscaping and the giant Moreton Bay Fig Trees made famous in the film Jurassic Park. The 17-acre Limahuli Garden offers endangered native plants, taro-filled agricultural terraces and beautiful views of the North Shore.
Other botanical gardens and plantations include Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens, Smith’s Tropical Paradise Botanical Garden and the Kauai Coffee Plantation. You can also take a tour of Hanalei’s taro farms to learn about this versatile Hawaiian root starch.
