Access to Hawaiʻi’s Beaches and Trails
OʻahuThe following beaches on Oʻahu offer all-terrain wheelchairs: Ala Moana Beach Park, Fort DeRussy Beach and Sans Souci Beach in Waikīkī; Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve Nature Preserve, Kailua Beach Park, Kuaola Regional Park and Pōkaʻī Beach Park. For further information and to confirm details before visiting, contact the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Parks and Recreation at (808) 768-3027.
Kauaʻi
All-terrain wheelchairs are available at select beaches on Kauaʻi, including Lydgate Beach Park, Poʻipū Beach Park and Salt Pond Beach Park. For more information, contact the County of Kaua‘i, Department of Parks and Recreation at (808) 241-4460.

Airline Transportation
Most airlines provide assistance to passengers with special needs through their skycap (porter) service and are able to transport personal wheelchairs, including folding, collapsible or non-folding manual wheelchairs, electric/battery-powered wheelchairs and electric-powered carts. Typically, 48 hours’ advance notice and one hour for check-in on your day of departure is needed for any electric/battery-powered chairs. Please advise your airline in advance to arrange for any special services.
Air Carrier Access Act
The Air Carrier Access Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in air travel. The Department of Transportation has a rule defining the rights of passengers and the obligations of airlines under this law. This rule applies to all flights of U.S. airlines, and to flights to or from the United States by foreign airlines.Safety Tips
