Tour Mauna Kea Cacao's award-winning cacao farm and taste Hawaiian cacao and chocolate. You'll see a working cacao farm with 1,800 cacao trees and learn how cacao is grown, harvested, fermented and dried. View our micro-batch chocolate making equipment. Then taste Mauna Kea Cacao's craft chocolate and compare it to chocolate made from our cacao by other premier bean-to-bar artisans. The tour includes a 1/2-mile walk to the orchard with several stops along the way to see post-harvest processing areas. Crack open a cacao pod and taste fresh cacao (an amazing on-the-farm experience)! Learn what makes Hawaiian cacao and chocolate wonderfully unique. The tour and chocolate tasting last approximately 90 minutes. Mauna Kea Cacao is located on the beautiful Hamakua Coast about 8 miles north of Hilo near Akaka Falls, the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden and popular zip lines. The farm is on a paved road 3/4 mile off of Highway 19 near Pepeekeo, Hawaii. Add a "chocolate stop" to your Hamakua Coast adventure. Tours resume November 5 on Thursdays at 10 and 1. Reserve early as space is limited to one family/friend group of up to eight people. Reservations must be purchased at least 24 hours in advance.
